Newton Sinclair Private Investments
Over the past 25 years I’ve been growing my company Back From Black Beam Renovation restoring wood beams back to their natural aesthetic while preserving the features of the beam and eliminating the need for damaging blasting and toxic chemical treatments. I have also successful established a holiday let business with properties in Hastings and Chichester. Each property is one I have personally renovated with an average ROI of 65% for each project.

For me, it doesn’t matter if the company is trading profitably or if it is currently in a turnaround situation as, with the right approach, I know I can turn it around.
My approach is to acquire companies of a similar type so that, by merging them and driving through changes, the company will be worth radically more than if it remained its original size. For the seller, this means not only achieving a sale but doing so at a much higher price than if they sold alone.
As a Private Investor, with a background in Entrepreneurship and Property Development, I am known for quickly adding substantial value to projects.
I began my career in renovating properties throughout France before buying my parent’s company, Renaissance Beams, and establishing it as Back from Black Beams in the South of England.
My passion for restoring period properties led me to undertake my own projects and start my Holiday Let business. My first project in 2013 where I added £260,000 of value to the property, my second project added £155,000 and my third £350,000. My most recent 3 projects, completed during lockdown, added created a total of £700k.
I’ve worked on countless properties with centuries of history, working closely with Potton, the self-build experts and George Clarke on the TV series Old Home New House. And I’ve also had the privilege of working in the homes of top business leaders and well-known personalities.
Family is very important to me. Back from Black Beams has always been, and always will be a family-run business, qualities I like to instil in any business I run. My wife, Lucy, has always been an active partner in all my ventures and now our newborn daughter is – though her contribution may be more distraction than anything right now – a good distraction, of course!
When selecting opportunities, I look for established businesses that are turning over £500k-£2.5m per annum, with owners who are ready to exit the business. This may be due to retirement, a change in life circumstances or because the pressures of running the business have become too much.

Every Private Investor will have their own area of focus. Some investors like to specialise in a particular industry, buying companies of a similar type to create a bigger, more profitable company. Some will create eco-systems by buying the supply chain of a company they own. And, others will simply buy a business because they know they can use their skill set to quickly increase its valuation.
I invest in companies generating £500-£2.5m per annum with owner-managers who are ready to step back from their business immediately and exit within the next five years.
